Repair Café Aotearoa NZ was fortunate to attend Festival for the Future 2022, July 29-31 in Te-Whanganui-a-Tara. This was a fantastic opportunity to meet young changemakers, who gather at FFTF to learn and celebrate the incredible work going on in Aotearoa toward a positive future. The team at Inspiring Stories hosted us in their Expo space, where we were able to korero with attendees about the growing repair movement in Aotearoa. Our stall had enthusiastic reception among attendees, who were keen to learn about the concept of community repair - which not only provides practical solutions to extend the lifespan of products, yet fosters intergenerational and intercultural mingling, education as well as building neighbourhoods & community resilience.
Ngā mihi nui to the awesome repair café volunteers who helped manage this stall over the weekend- Veronika Munro, Carolyn Tristram and Antoinette Ehmke from the new Raumati South Repair Café , Francine Corhumel from Hopper Repair Café, Hannelore Wagner-Nicholls from Ōtaki Repair Café and Heather McCaskill from Upper Hutt Repair Café Trust. Thanks also to Kim Tabrum from Sustainability Trust who hosts Wellington RepairED, for providing props for our stall- our visitors found these very exciting!
We created a Repair Café Aotearoa NZ tri-fold brochure for this event, which shows Repair Cafés and locations throughout the motu. This brochure is available upon request to use for your Repair Café events.
A big shout out to the Festival for the Future organisers for the opportunity to share the mahi behind the repair movement in Aotearoa; we look forward to you all becoming part of the Kiwi Repair Community.
